Tara and the Tigress has been my lifelong dream. As long as I can remember I have always wanted to design clothes. This stems from my childhood memories of going to India on holidays and paying a visit to the family cloth merchant with my mum and grandmother. The way they laid out bolt after bolt of fabric and described the print and the weave of the fabric it was mesmerising, all while sipping on hot hot chai.
People bought fabric and took it to the tailors. Before the 90s and before the onslaught of modernisation took a strong hold in India, that was the norm. Indian women are instinctively very good with needle and thread. This is a result of preparing them for marriage. And sewing was one of the prerequisites before the mass movement of sending the girl child to school.
